Centre Manager
Volunteer opportunity at the Buckingham Clearly Speaking Centre, may lead to permanent paid work. 9am-5pm
We are looking for an amiable, calm and supportive individual with great people and customer service skills for this administrative role. You need to possess good management skills. General day-to-day duties include meeting and greeting families who have children with special needs, utilising phone skills, while ensuring that the centre runs smoothly. You will also be expected to record feedback as to the service and outcomes. Also taking messages, as well as meticulously booking appointments.
Volunteer Counsellors
Part-time Wednesdays and Fridays, but can be flexible
Trainee counsellors required to work with children and young people with special needs, this is a sensitive field and requires a committed, caring and dedicated type of person with a real interest in working with children and young people with any level of special needs or disabilities. This may become a permanent paid post for the right individuals but also offers opportunities for students to gain work experience while they are studying on Counselling and Psychology courses.
Activity support buddies
Flexible, mainly held during School holidays, afterschool and weekends
Volunteer role, leading to paid post for the right individuals
Centre and community-based, you will be responsible for ensuring that children and young people, who have a range of special needs and responsibilities, are able to safely participate and enjoy a wide range of fun and learning-based activities.
Activity Coordinator
Paid post, every other Sunday, also during holidays. This post could be a shared post, either based on availability, or based on age group. We will also accept volunteers, who are interested in playwork and would like experience, to assist with the running of these clubs.
Plan and organise 2 separate sessions, junior (5-14yr olds) and senior sessions (14-25yrs olds) with children and young people who have special needs, this can be a shared post. The sessions need to be appropriate, exciting and the activities must be accessible for all children and young people who attend our specialist clubs. During holiday periods you are expected to plan and organise additional activities to suit the needs of local families who have children requiring specialist respite care. This includes craft workshops, fun activity days and suitable trips to locally-based activities.
Qualified teachers and trainee teachers

If you are looking to expand your knowledge and skills within the field of hidden special needs and disabilities then this post is ideal. In particular you will be working with children and young people who have Autistic Disorder and associated comorbids. We are offering a unique service which allows all children to achieve their full potential and we are currently awaiting funding to develop a long-term educational setting within Clearly Speaking, so these posts will be paid once that is secured.
Learning Support Assistants
Various hours
We are looking to provide work experience to anyone interested in becoming an LSA or a teacher as you will gain valuable experience with children and young people who have a variety of special needs. To fill this post you must be caring, patient and have a keen interest in working in the field of special needs. Knowledge is desirable but full training will be given.
